Mrs R Bolton is a Spencer type Sweet Pea variety boasting ruffled flowers in baby pink, fading to white towards the centre of each bloom. Large flowers emerge on tall stems, with each stem bearing as many as 6 or 7 blooms. Flowering from June to September, these lightly scented plants for garden use are ideal for cut flower arrangements, lasting up to 5 days in a vase indoors. These climbing plants benefit from a support in the form of a trellis or Sweet Pea obelisk to scramble up. They are easy to grow, preferring a sheltered spot in full sun in well-draining soil. Water well after planting and during dry spells to keep the soil evenly moist. Pinch the tips of young plants to promote bushy growth and an abundance of flowers and deadhead spent blooms to encourage further flowering. Also known by the botanical name Lathyrus odoratus, Mrs R Bolton Sweet Peas are hugely popular with bees and butterflies, attracting plenty of pollinators into the garden.
