Staropram brewery was established in 1869, nearly 50 years before Czechoslovakia was established. The founders built the brewery with the idea of a Czech national company. They engaged Czeches and preferred domestic business partners. The first stack of water, malt and hops was brewed under the name "Smíchov Twelve" on 1 May 1871 and received a well-known name Staropramen. In 1920, Mr Josef Paspa became the main brewer and began to modernise the brewery. He is the author of innovative technological procedures and a message icon: "Staropramen consists of water, pipes and fools." In 1939, Staropramen bride 859.561 hectoliters and became the largest brewery in the time Czechoslovakia. Today, people can enjoy Staropramen beer in more than 35 countries around the world.
