Product description
With this HDMI matrix switch 2ร4 you can supply up to 4 HDMI countersinks such as TVs, projectors and AV receivers. The sound system can also be connected via SPDIF/Toslink or audio analogue. There are 2 inputs for HDMI sources. You can freely assign all connections, e.g. output from HDMI source 1 via output 1 to 3 and simultaneous output from HDMI source 2 to output 4. The matrix replaces a 4-way splitter, an audio extractor and a 2-way switch. The HDMI switch is fully compatible with all video resolutions up to Ultra HD (maximum 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz) as well as HDR10, HLG-HDR and Dolby Vision. At the two 3.5 mm jack outputs, the audio extractor delivers the sound for headphones or hi-fi system when the source is playing stereo sound. To do this, you can switch the audio EDID to 2.0. With higher formats or active ARC, the outputs remain mute. The switch delivers sound via the two SPDIF Toslink outputs when the source plays stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS. So maximum 5.1 sound as a bit stream. If this is the desired audio format, set 5.1 on the switch. Playback also works for TV sound when ARC is active. All formats can be transferred via HDMI, including Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD. The source and HDMI countersinks must of course support the format โ and signal this via EDID. Please note that many players adhere to the HDMI specification and only output formats supported by the HDMI sinks. For example, Apple TV only outputs 4K Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos sound if ALL the connected HDMI countersinks are supported. So if you connect a projector, HD sound is no longer possible. For some other HDMI sources, you can manually adjust the video and audio format. This depends on the device as well as on the app/software running on it. The EDID management of the VMS02400 can overwrite the information of the HDMI sinks in the audio area. The sound output can therefore be limited to stereo or increased to 5.1 sound formats (Dolby Digital, DTS). The 3 modes 2.0, 5.1 and PASS are used for this. Higher audio formats are only possible if all detected HDMI countersinks are supported. For this purpose, the PASS mode is selected. When 2 TVs are connected to HDMI outputs 1 and 2, their internal sound (reception tuner or app) can be output at the two SPDIF outputs - even if you have 2 sound systems in separate rooms. The ARC function (Audio Return Channel) is used for this purpose. In ARC mode, the two analogue audio outputs remain mute.
