The E654 is one of Dormer's range of Combi Taps - a combined drill and tap in a single tool, which first drill the hole with the twist drill end of the tool and then threads the same hole with the middle of the tool, which is a tap. As the drilling part and the threading part are both on the same tool, you can be certain the hole drilled is the correct size for the thread you create. E654 Combi Taps are manufactured to a Dormer standard, based on the International Standards Organization and come in a range of sizes to produce Unified Coarse threads (UNC) from 6-32 to 12-24, and 1/4 to 5/8 inch. The steam tempering on the tools stops workpiece material from sticking to the cutting edges so you get a cleaner, more accurate finish on the threads, whilst the High Speed steel used in manufacture gives you good results and longer tool life in a variety of materials. For UNC threads in shallow through holes, the E654 provides greater efficiency, with a single tool including both the drilling and threading operations and is suitable for use both in machines and by hand.
