Growing Instructions Grow seedlings in cool conditions until all risk of frost has passed and plants have 2–3 true leaves. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions over 7–10 days. Plant in moist, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun, spacing 50cm apart. Improve soil structure with well-rotted manure and lime acid soils if needed. Protect with netting or fleece to deter birds and insects and use collars to prevent cabbage root fly. Water regularly, feed with a high-nitrogen fertiliser, hoe to control weeds, and draw earth around stems to prevent wind rock. Harvest from late summer once heads are fully formed.
