• White willow, also called silver (due to the characteristic color of the underside of the leaves), is a common tree from the Salicaceae family, growing in the temperate climate zone of Europe and Asia (all the way to the Urals). It is quite short-lived, but in change it is distinguished by large annual growths. It is sometimes planted in parks and gardens as an ornamental plant, while in its natural state it can most often be found in river valleys, on the banks of ponds and lakes and in floodplain forests, where together with poplars there are large concentrations. It prefers periodically flooded, sandy soils.

RAW MATERIAL: willow bark (cortex salicis) Among the medicinal raw materials contained in willow bark, the most important is salicin, which decomposes in the stomach into salicylic alcohol. In addition, it contains glycosides fragilin, salicortin, tremulacin and poplin, flavonoids, salicylic acid, ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid, caffeic acid and tannins (8-20%). ACTION Salicylic compounds and flavonoids have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-exudative, diaphoretic and antipyretic effects. They prevent the formation of body swelling, relax tense muscle fibers, detoxify and improve well-being. They activate the immune system and have a calming effect. At the same time, they increase diuresis and stimulate urine secretion, helping to remove fine sand from the urinary tract. They prevent bile stasis and dilate blood vessels, improving circulation. They have a strong anti-rheumatic and anti-arthritic effect, accelerating the excretion of excess uric acid. APPLICATION White willow is used in the treatment of all types of upper respiratory tract infections, colds and flu, as well as tonsillitis, mumps and chickenpox. It is effective in relieving the effects of rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic fever, arthritis and gout, and is sometimes used in oliguria. In combination with other herbs, it reduces pain, including migraine headaches and neuralgia. It can also be used externally to treat excessive sweating of the feet and hands and to apply to wounds that are difficult to heal. It helps with autoimmune skin diseases such as psoriasis and some forms of acne. Preparations made from willow bark are an alternative for people who cannot use acetylsalicylic acid in the form of aspirin tablets. HOW TO STORAGE Keep out of reach and sight of children, in closed containers, protected from light and moisture. EXAMPLES OF USE Decoction Pour 250 ml of cold water over 1 tablespoon of willow bark. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Leave to infuse covered for another 10 minutes, strain. Drink 100 ml 3 to 6 times a day. To enhance the effect, after taking the first dose, you can drink 150 ml of coffee brewed from 2 full teaspoons of ground beans (caffeine enhances the effect of salicylates). Infusion Pour 250 ml of boiling water over 1 tablespoon of willow bark. Leave to infuse covered for 30 minutes, strain. Drink 150 ml 4-5 times a day. It is recommended to consume up to 1000 mg of vitamin C daily at the same time. Tincture Pour 400 ml of 40-60% alcohol over 100 g of willow bark.
