About this item
  • Grades available: 80 (coarse) (approx. grain size 180 microns / 0.18 mm); 120 (medium coarse) (approx. grain size 106 microns / 0.106 mm); 180 (medium fine) (approx. grain size 63 microns / 0.063 mm); 240 (fine) (approx. grain size 48 microns / 0.048 mm); 360 (very fine) (approx. grain size 22.8 microns / 0.028 mm).
  • Brown aluminium oxide (also sometimes called brown fused alumina) is a popular abrasive with a wide range of applications in crafting and engineering processes. Due to its versatility, strength and durability aluminium oxide is a common abrasive media for use on metal, glass, wood and other materials. Differing grades of the grit are achieved by grinding it down to the required fineness, much like sandpaper.
  • Brown aluminium oxide can be used for several different applications and is recyclable, being usable until it begins to break down. The rate of how quickly the aluminium oxide degrades depends on the type of material on which its abrasive qualities are being applied and the pressure used.
  • This aluminium oxide can be used in wet or dry abrasive / blasting processes. The low-iron content means no rust will be left behind (thus avoiding problems in any subsequent stages of the process).
  • Applications include: abrasive blasting; surface preparation and removal / stripping of paint, rust, mill scale and contaminants from the surface of a substrate; lapping; etching to ensure a coatings’ adhesion & performance; non-slip surfaces; refractory coating; decorative.
