What's a VGA cable for? A VGA cable is used to connect an analog PC monitor to a PC or laptop. VGA cables utilize an HD15 connector (male or female depending on the equipment being attached) to connect the monitor and PC/laptop. Does VGA provide sound? DVI and VGA are both incapable of supporting an audio signal, even if they are converted to HDMI (which does support audio). To get audio, you\'ll need to use a separate audio cable. Is VGA better than HDMI? HDMI is really best for connecting a PC to an HDTV. Consequently, I\'d go with a DVI cable. That\'ll give you a pure digital signal (VGA is analog) and a much sharper picture at higher resolutions. Your Dell ST2210 has a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, which you can and should use. Can VGA do 1080p? VGA can indeed support 1080p. The quality of the signal begins to drop off above 1920 x 1080 (1080p) which will cause a drop in image quality due to the analogue nature of the signal but with a good enough cable and transceiver on either end it can be used for resolutions up to and including 2048 x 1536.
