Light is more or less polarized when reflected on a non-metallic surface. This also applies to the diffusion of sunlight in the atmosphere. Zeiss T* Pol filters allow light to pass through a level of polarisation and block the polarisation level that stands vertically to it. So you can darken the sky blue while white clouds are displayed brighter at the same time. Even reflections on wet or shiny objects such as leaves can be significantly reduced. By reducing reflections on a water surface, pebbles or fish can be seen in a river bed. The effect is most powerful when the camera is at a right angle to catch light.
