Your shaker mixes will perform best in a sunny or lightly shaded position, in any type of soil as long as there is adequate drainage. Prepare the ground by clearing any stones and weeds. Lightly dig over to loosen soil and rake over. Give the box a good shake and scatter the contents at a rate of 25-30g/sq m (approximately 8 tablespoons). Water the ground immediately. Sow mid-March to June or September to November. Flowers in summer from a spring sowing, or the following spring from an autumn sowing; annuals will flower in their first year and then self-seed for flowering in following years, perennials normally flower from year 2 onwards (some may flower in their first year if sown early).
