Originally formed in 1743, the Chasseurs à Cheval (Berittenen Hunter), a green uniformed light cavalry whose main role was to carry out patrols, as well as fast attacks for the French Army. A good chasseur was almost at home on his horse, delivered important mincum with the enemy's cavalley, or made enemy movements and was therefore an important element of the army for the French commanders. Armed with crooked sabre, carabiner and bayonet (bayonets were rather unpopular with the chasseurs and were rather used to dig out vegetables, or were "lost\"). The chasseurs were born for the fight in the saddle, but also used very good soldiers on foot if it was not avoided. At the peak of the French army and under Bonaparte's reign there were 31 regiments of the Chasseurs à Cheval.
