About this item
- Fortuna, Roman Goddess of Happiness, Bronzed
Product description
Fortuna (in Latin this means happiness and fate); she is the goddess of fortune and destiny of the Roman saga. The goddess became popular by King Servius Tullius already at the beginning of the Roman Empire, who dedicated two temples to her. Legend has it that this had come to the royal throne as the son of a slave by the favor of the goddess of fate. Fortuna later plays an important role in the religion of the Romans, among other things, it is called one of the parzes, and many temples throughout the Roman Empire were dedicated to her. A well-known temple is located on the Quirinal, one of Rome's seven hills. Their feast is celebrated on June 24th. Fortuna is always characterized as a fickle, multi-layered goddess who distributes the gifts of her cornucopia, happiness but also misfortune, without prestige or the status of the person. That is why their eyes are similar to those of Justitia. As an oracle goddess, Fortuna was frequently questioned about the future, often this happened about pulling loose, small pieces of wood with carved lines interpreted by the priesthood. In the famous choral work "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff, the capricious fate, the Fortuna, plays a strong role. Made of artificial stone and bronzed and coloured by an artist.
