One of the most popular pre-Olympic gods was the Titan Kronos. He was not only the youngest son of the earth goddess Gaia and the heaven god Uranus, but also stood before all other titans. When his father Uranus banished the Cyclops and Hekatoncheirs, whom he absolutely could not stand because of their ugliness, to the underworld, Gaia caused her son Kronos to free the unfortunate and emasculate the father. Kronos fulfilled the wish of the mother, was successful and was now considered a world ruler, so to speak. He married his sister Rhea, to me who he witnessed the gods Hera, Hades, Hestia, Poseidon, Demeter and Zeus.
