Vintage Acker Bilk

A double CD for the price of one represents exceptional value for money with the latest release in Lake's 'Vintage' series which sees a collection of early recordings made by popular British Jazz legend, Acker Bilk. As Mr Acker Bilk, complete with bowler hat and striped waistcoat, his recordings made the charts back in the early 1960s. The repertoire and style is very much New Orleans Jazz and it is very apparent that Acker was destined for greater things – he plays with great fluidity and passion. There are various line-ups including his own Paramount Jazz Band. The musicians were all young men who played with excitement and conviction. They include another British Jazz legend Bob Wallis, who contributes some fiery trumpet, and the drummer on some of the tracks is none other than Ginger Baker who went on to fame and fortune with the Rock band, Cream.
