Tris-NAC Sterile Solution for Dogs and Cats Description Sterile Solution Tris-EDTA + N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) high hygienic strength for dogs and cats. Tris-EDTA (Etilen Diammin Tetracetic Acid) has bactericidal activity on growing bacterinons located within the biofilm (Ciofu et al, 2017); in combination with Tromethamine (Tris) it damages the walls of bacterial cells and increases penetration within the bacterial membranes; it is well tolerated and non-otoxic; acts in synergy with chlorhexidylhexida. In vitro work has shown that Tris- EDTA is a more than effective support in the treatment of chronic cases of Pseudomonas otitis with potential biofilm combined with antibiotics (Pye et al, 2014). NAC is a N-acetylate derivative of cysteine amino acid, has mucolytic action, so it destroys the production of exopolisaccharides thus weakening the EPS matrix. It has been recently used in eight clinical trials as an adjuvant treatment to destroy mature biofilm and prevent its formation and has shown an excellent safety and efficacy profile. The combination of Tris-EDTA and NAC on the skin and ear before the application of topical products such as chlorhexidine, antibiotics, antimicrobial synthesis peptides, thus allows an increase in the permeability of mature biofilm and, consequently, its breakdown, effectively supporting overcoming the problem of resistance to the classic antibacterial therapeutic approach.
