Connection of two coils in series instead of parallel gives significantly different results. For teles with two pickups, the traditional parallel wiring provides relatively uniform output across all three positions. But a tele with its series-connected pickups, produces a higher output and a fatter tone. A 4-position switch allows players to have both wiring options available. Our wiring sets SS2 and SS3 are very similar, the difference is in which switch position the series combination is created. SS3 places the series combination in position 3. This layout mimics a normal tele slightly closer than Fenders layout. Position 4:Neck Pickup Position 3: Bridge and neck pickup in series. Position 2: Bridge and neck pickup in parallel. Position 1:Bridge Pickup Players with backward-wound reverse polarity pickups get the added benefit of humming in positions 2 and 3. If your neck pickup has a cover, the cover must be isolated from the black cable of the pickup and a separate ground wire added to maintain its shielding ability (if your neck pickup is uncovered, this is not a problem).
