This exotic Mexican bulb has many names including: 'Tiger Flower', 'Mexican Shell Flower' and 'Aztec Lily'. These unique flowers can reach up to 6in/15cm in diameter, and come in bold shades such as yellow, orange, pink, white, red and mauve. Three bold outer petals unfurl with three smaller ones between, which are heavily spotted in raspberry, creating a striking contrast that radiates character. Pleated, lance-shaped leaves fan out from the base of the plant in attractive yellow-greens. These bulbous perennials produce a succession of exotic blooms from June to August and look wonderful in a summer border or in pots on the patio. It is barely hardy, and normally grown as a tender summer annual, planted in spring and dug up again in autumn for storing in a dry frost-free place. Peacock Tiger Flowers flourish in full sun and prefer free-draining, sandy soil that has been enriched. They offer a striking contrast to plants with silver foliage. For best effect, plant them in groups of five or more, or leave undisturbed to form large clumps. Top quality 7-9cm bulbs supplied. Flowers June to August. Height 30-60cm.
