Product description
Thompson & Morgan Cercidiphyllum Japonicum Katsura Tree is a fast-growing specimen with a long period of interest to delight the senses. The naked branches of the Katsura tree are decorated with tiny red flowers in spring, before the young rounded leaves break bud in a glorious display of bronze pink foliage. As the summer months progress the foliage colours to a fresh shade of bright green, before changing once again in the autumn months to a vivid gold and orange. The fallen autumn leaves have a captivating fragrance of sugary candy floss that is almost irresistible. Cercidiphyllum japonicum holds an RHS AGM and makes a superb multi-stemmed specimen tree for a small garden or woodland area. Repot Thompson & Morgan Cercidiphyllum Japonicum Katsura into a larger pot using a soil based compost such as John Innes No 3, and grow in cool conditions until large enough to be planted in its final position. Once well grown, transfer into any non alkaline, rich, moist but well-draining soil. Incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or compost into the soil prior to planting. Choose a position with shelter from cold winds in sun or dappled shade. Feed and water katsura tree regularly until fully established. Once established, katsura require little attention except for the occasional removal of damaged, diseased and misplaced shoots in late autumn and winter. Cercidiphyllum japonicum tends to naturally form several main stems, however it may be trained to have a central leader if desired.
