Rodin never wanted to comment on what his thinker thought, at most about the "how he thought": "My thinker thinks not only with his head, his frowned forehead, his unlocked nostrils and pressed lips, but with every muscle in his arms, his back, and his legs." The Thinker is one of Rodin's most famous works, this work was originally a sculpture from the "Hell Gate", a work of the French state. The thinker is in the tympanum. The arch field of the gate, and looks over hell: he directs the figures under him, but is also enclosed itself. The Thinker was Rodin's first work to be publicly exhibited. The work was exhibited on April 21, 1906 during a profound political and social crisis in France before the Pantheon. Later, the work was taken to the Hotel Biron, today's Rodin Museum, Rodin's former studios.
