Product description

The Pilgrim’s Progress is one of the most influential books in history. This illustrated LARGE PRINT edition is in the original English, with several new features: a new introduction a full list of characters original artistic sketches from 1904 a list of place names (toponyms) a brief biographical sketch of John Bunyan a list of titles of Deity used in the book chapter breaks corrected and updated Bible references Biblical phrases and expressions in italics (for easier identification) a new style with easier-to-follow dialogues In 1678, English preacher and author John Bunyan wrote one of the most important literary works ever penned, now published in more than 200 languages. It is an allegory about a journey from this world to the Celestial City (Heaven). The protagonist (Graceless, later named Christian) reads a book (the Bible) that makes him aware of a heavy burden he has been bearing (his sin). A man named Evangelist meets him and directs him to a place of deliverance and new beginnings. Christian’s friends beg him to return to his city (called Destruction), but he presses on until he arrives at the cross and empty tomb of Jesus Christ. At the cross his burden is loosed and buried. Finally free, he continues his pilgrimage. Like us, he experiences dangers, temptations, and adventures, gaining friends and facing temptations and fears along the way, until he must finally “cross the river” of death to be welcomed, at last, to his forever home in the Celestial City.
