Please read through the following tips to help you clear your pond of green water: Have only one inch of fish per ten gallons of water. Your fish can affect the pond water quality. First of all the number of fish should correspond to the pond size because the organic waste will increase with more fish. Avoid direct sunlight as green water is due to small algae cell. When these small algae cells come in contact with sunlight produce algae by photosynthesis. Control amount of nitrates and phosphates as it is very harmful for the pond’s ecosystem and helps in algae growth. These are food sources for algae. Use plenty of aquatic plants. Aquatic plants in the pond have a huge impact on growing green algae cells as algae require sunlight for its survival, so when aquatic plants restrict the amount of sunlight, green algae-causing cells are prohibited.
