This swede variety produces well-rounded roots with yellow flesh and purple topped skin, each crop with an excellent flavour and minimal bitterness. Swede 'Magres' is the perfect swede for cooking and will withstand a wide variety of weather conditions, even colder UK winters, and its foliage even shows good resistance to mildew. Sowing Time: April to June. Sow seedsthinly, 1cm (1/2in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in well-drained, fertile soil, which has been raked to a fine tilth. Water ground regularly, especially in dry periods. Thin out seedlings at an early stage, to 10-15cm (4-6in) apart. Hoe regularly, taking care not to damage the roots and keep well watered.
