Product description

Description Hibiscus are one of the UK's favourite shrubs, although many people don't realise they can be grown outdoors, and think the plants aren't hardy. Hibiscus syriacus 'Purple Ruffles' is fully hardy, easy to grow, bushy, free-flowering and excellent for borders and patio containers. The flowers of Hibiscus 'Purple Ruffles' are extra special; they are purple-red, and with double, even triple layers of petals. Although a little bit late to flower in the summer, they are well worth the wait! Height: 3m (10'). Spread: 2m (6'). Culinary note: The flowers can be infused to make a mildly citrus flavoured tea. The petals can be cut and added to fruit salads too. Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only. How to Grow Grow Hibiscus on rich fertile, reliably moist, well-drained soil, in full sun. When growing hibiscus plants in patio containers use a soil-based compost, such as John Innes No.3. More Info Feed and water hibiscus regularly until fully established. Apply a dry mulch such as bark chips to the base if the plant in autumn to protect from winter cold. Prune hibiscus in late spring, removing any stems that have died back or been damaged over winter. Hibiscus are often one of the last shrubs in the garden to break bud, so be patient with plants that are slow to start into growth in spring - they may remain dormant until May! Ideal For: Low Maintenance Gardens, Exotic Gardens, Specimen Plant Hardiness: Hardy Position In: Full Sun Height: Up to 300cm Spread: Up to 200cm Ease of Growing: Easy for All Ease of Aftercare: Easy for All
