Hydrangea paniculata 'Vanille Fraise' is easy to grow and perfect for those problematic north-facing areas, due to its extreme hardiness - down to -20C! Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only. How to Grow Hydrangea paniculata loves sunny or semi-shaded position to help it grow to its best potential and try to keep it sheltered from cold and drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in a non-alkaline, fertile, and moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. More Info Water the flowers regularly until they are fully established. It is best to leave faded hydrangea flower heads in place, so new buds are protected in spring from frost damage. After flowering you are able to prune and reduce the stems to restrict their growth and this will allow control over the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. If required, you can prune the Hydrangea paniculata will back to a few of the oldest stems to a few buds just above ground level. This will encourage larger flower heads to be formed. After you have pruned your hydrangeas, its best to apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Caution: All parts of hydrangea will upset the stomach if eaten. The foliage may also aggravate skin allergies.
