Sue Daley's English Paper Piecing The technique that Sue Daley introduced to the world of English paper piecing is the coarse glue method. By using a Sue Daley Sewline fabric glue pen to prep your shapes, you can easily cut your prep time by over 75%. The English piece of paper dates back to the 1800's and the process of this hand stitching technique was time consuming. The fabric was thread over hexagons of paper cut from old letters or ledgers and then whip stitched together. Scissors were used to cut fabric pieces about ¼" larger than the paper shape, meaning a quilt could take years to finish by hand. The same basic principles are used today, but the technology is something wonderful, which makes this time-consuming technique possible for patchworkers. Until very recently, patchworkers were still gluing their fabric onto papers, stitching through card and fabric with thread!
