Product description
Squash 'Musquee de Provence' is a traditional French variety renowned for its impressive size, rich flavour, and striking appearance. Each fruit grows flat and heavily lobed, resembling a large wheel of cheese, with a thick, deep orange flesh that is sweet and fine-flavoured. Fruits weigh between 7–10kg (15–22lbs), providing a substantial harvest ideal for slicing, roasting, baking, and mashing. When fully ripe, the skin turns a warm, rich brown, adding visual appeal to your autumnal displays. Sow seeds from April to early June in a propagator on a windowsill, or one seed per 7.5cm (3") pot in a greenhouse at 20–25°C (68–78°F) using quality moist compost. Cover with 19mm (¾") of compost. Seeds germinate within 5–8 days. Once seedlings are established, plant out after frost risk has passed, spacing 90cm (36") apart to allow ample trailing growth. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors from late May, placing two seeds per station and thinning to a single strong plant. Sowing to cropping takes approximately 14 weeks. Provide regular watering, keeping soil moist but well-drained. Feed fortnightly with a balanced liquid fertiliser during the growing season. Monitor for pests and remove weeds to encourage healthy growth. Harvest when fruits are firm, deeply coloured, and mature. Images shown are for guidance only and show the expected results of plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary results. Image may be included for illustration of supply but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months). Decorative pots are not supplied.
