Squash ‘Jumbo Pink Banana’ is a striking winter variety, perfect for gardeners seeking an impressive, large-fruited crop. The formidable pale pink fruits produce sweet, flavoursome orange flesh suitable for roasting, baking, or a nutty-flavoured mash. Highly productive and reliable, this unusual variety will reward gardeners with a spectacular harvest even in poor summers. Ideal for winter storage, it is a must-grow for squash enthusiasts who have space for sprawling plants. Growing Instructions Sow indoors from April in individual 7.5cm (3in) pots on their sides at a depth of 1.5cm (½in). Keep at 20–25°C (68–77°F) until germination (5–7 days). Grow on in cooler conditions until all risk of frost has passed. Gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over 7–10 days. Plant outdoors in warm, well-drained, humus-rich soil in full sun. Water regularly around the base, maintain good airflow, and hoe to prevent weeds. Feed fortnightly with a high-potassium fertiliser once fruits start swelling. Harvest in late summer and autumn before the first frosts, leaving several inches of stem attached. Images shown are for guidance only and show the expected results of plants upon maturity.
