Squash 'Jaune et Vert' is an exceptional heirloom scallop (patty pan) squash, featuring creamy-ivory fruits adorned with striking green radial streaks. Each fruit grows 5–7 cm (2–3") in diameter, ideal for snacking or young culinary use, while mature fruits can be roasted or baked for a delicious, ornamental addition to meals. This high-yielding variety produces 5–6 fruits per plant, weighing 800g–1kg each, perfect for gardeners seeking both flavour and abundance. Growing & Sowing Instructions: Sow under glass from March–May, using one seed per 7.5 cm (3") pot in moist, high-quality compost. Cover with 2 cm (¾") compost. Maintain temperature 15–20°C (59–68°F). Germination occurs in 7–10 days. Grow in a warm, light position and transplant after the last frost. Space plants 60 cm (24") apart and rows 150 cm (5') apart. Alternatively, direct sow outdoors in late May: place 2 seeds per station, spacing 60 cm (24") between plants and 150 cm (5') between rows, thinning to one plant per station. Cropping begins 8–10 weeks after sowing. Culinary Use: For best flavour, harvest young fruits at 5–7 cm (2–3") diameter. Mature fruits are excellent for roasting, baking, or serving with meats and vegetables. Aftercare: Ensure soil remains moist and well-drained. Provide full sun and remove damaged leaves to improve air circulation and reduce disease. Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
