Squash 'Crown Prince' F1 is a visually stunning and highly versatile winter squash variety, ideal for UK gardens. It features distinctive steel blue skin and bright orange flesh with a sweet, nutty flavour. Fruits typically weigh 3–4kg (6–9lb) and are perfect for roasting, soups, stews, or baking. The trailing growth habit makes this variety suitable for allotments, vegetable gardens, or larger containers, allowing vines to spread and thrive. This variety has excellent storage potential, lasting over three months when kept in a frost-free, well-ventilated area, making it a reliable choice for extended use. Sow under glass from April to May, with a maturation period of 18–20 weeks. Transplant seedlings outside after the last frost and choose a sunny, well-drained position. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry spells, and spacing between plants should be sufficient to allow for healthy growth and airflow. Harvest takes place from September to October. Fruits should be allowed to fully ripen on the vine to achieve the best flavour and storage life.
