Meadowsweet Native Seed, Filipendula ulmaria, also known as meadow queen or lady of the meadow, is a towering, white-flowered classic of the British countryside. Tall, complex, and quintessentially British, it’s the wildflower you picture when you imagine your own little meadow. Blooming from early summer through late summer, Meadowsweet stands resplendent, filling gardens with sweet smells of summer. This much-loved wildflower has a long and curious history, with evidence of its use stretching back to the Bronze Age, from flavouring mead and wine to relieving headaches or being worn as a perfume. Thriving in moist, well-drained soil and full sunlight to partial shade, Meadowsweet grows 60 cm to 1.5 metres tall. It’s easy to introduce to your garden using simple sowing methods or a terram membrane for weed control. Plant these wild flower seeds in autumn or early spring, keep soil moist during establishment, and enjoy a crowning glory of white blooms all summer long.
