These castles no longer exist today. The family of the Knights of Lichtenstein died in the 17th century. In 1837, King Wilhelm von Württemberg sold the terrain to his cousin Wilhelm Graf von Württemberg. He had a new construction built on the base walls of the first Lichtenstein castle. In 1840 to 1842, a fairy tale castle was built inspired by Wilhelm Hauff's novel "Lichtenstein". The interiors have been richly decorated with decorative paintings by painter Eberlein. From 1980, the construction was restored, promoted by the Desert Red Foundation and the Association for the preservation of the Lichtenstein e.V. Castle.
