The new hydro-balance technology of the Raymarine Evolution autopilots actively compensates for the elasticity or slip of the hydraulic systems, which is influenced by trapped air bubbles in the control system, by bending radii in hoses and pipelines and by blocks. This elasticity is a variable factor that can reduce autopilot performance over time. Experienced skippers who control by hand, instinctively feel the change in performance and ensure balance. If a car pilot controls the boat, he must learn how to recognise and balance the change. So far, conventional car pilots who do not have a rowing position sensor could not recognise the change in performance.
