Underneath, a polyurethane backing holds its tack once the grip is damp. That is the point at which a cheaper grip starts to slide. The embossed texture gives you something to hold rather than something to squeeze, and at 0.65mm it sits close to the handle rather than bulking it out. Both ends arrive pre-cut and ready to wrap, so there is nothing to trim and nothing to judge by eye. Unwind the grip, start at the bottom of the handle, work your way up in a clockwise motion, and secure the top with the finishing tape supplied.
