Other Key Features Suitable for Low Temperature Application (5-30C) Cationic Primer with Flash Rust Resistance for Nail Heads Being applied by spray, brush or roller, the Protek Stain Blocking Primer offers a layer of protection to give you the best results before painting timbers. It's a clear, water-based Cationic Primer that is designed to prevent rust or tannin bleeding through your paint layers. For best results, we recommend using a Wood Preserver first if applying to bare untreated timber. This primer will not stop resin coming through and if the timber is resinous then a knotting agent should be applied. Surfaces should be clean and dry before application. 1 Litre covers approximately 8m² per coat depending on the moisture and surface porosity, and we advise using 2-3 coats depending on the wood species and surface. This is especially important if a white or off-white topcoat is going to be used. The primer will process in temperatures of 5-30C and has a fast drying time off 1 hour - the surface must be fully dry and brushes fully washed out before applying the top coat. Whilst wet, the Stain Blocking Primer and other Top Coats are not compatible and should never be mixed. For storage, the primer should be kept in it's original sealed container, avoiding temperate outside of 5-30C. If stored correctly, the primer should have a shelf life of at least 24 months.
