Prunus ‘Kojo-no-mai’ is an RHS AGM ornamental cherry tree, recognised for its outstanding garden performance, reliability and versatility. Being compact in size and neat in shape, this attractive tree is the perfect choice for a small garden, where it will put on a fabulous show with the very minimum of fuss. Producing an abundance of beautiful pink cherry blossom during spring, this lovely variety not only looks fantastic but attracts bees and other pollinators to the garden. A dense screen of lush green leaves cover the tree throughout summer, before turning to fiery shades of red and orange in the autumn. This small and easy-to-grow tree provides so much in terms seasonal interest, whilst requiring very little in return. Pot up Prunus incisa 'Kojo-no-mai' plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. Once they are well grown, acclimatise Prunus plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before transplanting them outdoors in well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole. Feed and water cherry trees regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established, Prunus incisa plants require only occasional attention. Pruning of Fuji cherries is best kept to a minimum, removing only occasional damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in mid-summer.
