Product description
Pontederia cordata, commonly known as Pickerel Weed, is a striking marginal aquatic plant that brings both beauty and biodiversity to your pond. Its glossy, heart-shaped leaves rise elegantly above the water’s edge, while tall spikes of vivid blue flowers bloom from midsummer into early autumn – much later than many other aquatic plants. This long flowering period ensures ongoing interest and valuable nectar for pollinators when few other pond plants are in flower. Ideal for pond margins and shallow water planting zones, Pontederia cordata has a slow-spreading clump-forming habit, making it suitable for everything from large wildlife ponds to compact garden features. It adds height, colour, and movement to aquatic planting schemes and requires very little maintenance once established. A perfect choice for both ornamental and wildlife-friendly water gardens. How to Grow Instructions: Light: Prefers full sun for best flowering. Temperature: Hardy in UK conditions; protect in very exposed sites. Watering: Grows submerged; ensure water depth remains up to 20cm (8") above crown. Feeding: Use aquatic plant feed tablets in spring for a flowering boost. Humidity: Naturally high in pond environments; no special care needed. Images shown are for guidance only and show the expected results of plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary results. Image may be included for illustration of supply but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months). Decorative pots are not supplied.
