Pontederia cordata, commonly known as Pickerel Weed, is a striking marginal aquatic plant that brings both beauty and biodiversity to your pond. Its glossy, heart-shaped leaves rise elegantly above the water’s edge, while tall spikes of vivid blue flowers bloom from midsummer into early autumn – much later than many other aquatic plants. This long flowering period ensures ongoing interest and valuable nectar for pollinators when few other pond plants are in flower.
