The Plum 'Victoria' tree is a much-loved British classic and one of the easiest and most reliable plum varieties to grow. This self-fertile variety produces heavy crops of juicy, medium-sized fruits with sweet yellow flesh and red-blushed skin – perfect for eating fresh or for use in baking, preserving, or desserts. Fruit ripens in late August, offering a delicious reward from a low-maintenance tree. This hardy plum tree is available on St Julien A Rootstock - Espalier: St. Julien (semi-vigorous): Reaches 4.5m, suited to larger spaces. Plant your tree in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. Prepare the planting hole with compost or manure and insert a stake at planting time. Firm in well, water thoroughly, and mulch in spring to retain moisture and keep weeds at bay. Trees are dispatched while dormant, in autumn or early spring. Though bare of leaves, they are healthy and ready to establish once planted. If planting is delayed, heel them into loose soil or compost until ready. Avoid winter pruning – instead prune in spring, removing damaged or poorly placed growth and shaping the tree to an open framework. Thin fruits as they develop to avoid overloading branches.
