A delectable and flavoursome mangetout that will have you collecting endless amounts of pods all summer long, which will continuously encourage further cropping! ‘Snow wind’ not only supplies slim and crunchy pods, but will have the added bonus of unique purple/blue flowers that will perfectly compliment the fresh green pods. This variety is fantastic because it requires minimal maintenance, is semi-leafless and doesn’t need any growing support! Where to sow: Direct sow outdoors. Preparation: Prepare the soil by raking until it is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones. Sowing: Sow every 10 days to ensure successional crops. Sow 5cm (2in) apart, 5cm (2in) deep and in rows 75cm (30in) apart. Growing: Water plants regularly, especially when in flower as this will improve the crop. Start picking pods just as the peas inside start to form, regular picking will encourage further cropping and improve the flavour. Plants are self supporting when sown in blocks. Support pea plants with twiggy sticks, wire or netting as they grow, and use fine netting to protect pea crops from birds and pea moth damage. When growing peas, regular and thorough watering especially when in flower will improve crop yields. Harvest peas around 14 weeks after sowing when the pods have swollen. Regular picking will encourage further cropping.
