Pack of 36 Assorted Talavera Mexican Handmade 10.5cm Tiles: 'Aleatorio'
About this item
- A pack of 36 individual 10.5cm square handmade, glazed Talavera tiles made in the colonial city of San Miguel de Allende, decorated using the silk screen process. Each individual tile design is different. These tiles are comparable in style to Moroccan tiles. YOU WILL RECIEVE THE PICTURED TILES - one of each.
- HANDMADE – Tumia Talavera Tiles are handmade and screen printed in Mexico. They have a long tradition dating back to the 16th/17th when Mexico was under colonial rule. The Spanish came to Mexico and shared their knowledge of pottery and tile making and the tradition has been kept alive, using remarkably similar techniques to this day. Talavera de la Reina, a Spanish village not far from Madrid renowned for its ceramic crafts lends its name to the Talavera tiles.
- VERSATILE - Suitable for a variety of situations - kitchen and bathroom back splashes, light duty counter/table tops, stair risers, and hallways. Can be used in “semi wet” situations (eg. splash backs) but not “fully wet” conditions (eg. inside a shower). They are not suited to use as floor tiles. They are not perfectly suited to outside use as the glaze can crack from freeze/thaw conditions. If you can live with this, they can be used outside. No guarantee as to heat resistant properties.
- Our tiles are generally about 7mm thick. As they are handmade there is a little variance from tile to tile.
- You can clean the tile in the same way as a normal ceramic wall tile. We suggest non-abrasive environmentally friendly cleaners.
Product description
A pack of 36 assorted handmade, glazed, 10.5cm Talavera tiles made in the colonial city of San Miguel de Allende, decorated using the silk screen process. Our tiles are generally about 6mm thick. As they are handmade there is a little variance from tile to tile. Our tiles can be installed in a variety of situations such as kitchen back splashes, bathroom splash backs, fireplaces, light duty counter/table tops, stair risers, and hallway walls. They are water resistant and so can be used in “semi wet” situations (such as splash backs) but not in “fully wet” conditions (such as inside a shower or swimming pool). They are not suited to use as floor tiles. They are not perfectly suited to outside use as the glaze does not withstand freeze/thaw conditions. If you can live with this, they can be used outside. You can clean the tile in the same way as a normal ceramic wall tile. We suggest non-abrasive environmentally friendly cleaners They also make great coasters or can be used in craft projects. Tumia LAC was founded in the UK in 1978 promoting fair trade crafts and goods from Latin America. I wrote to Bigamart's customer support and they accompanied the process of reshipping the item until it finally arrived. I felt a genuine effort to solve the problem till it was finally solved.
The package was here in Australia from England in a few days — so quick! Something was missing and they refunded it straight away. Pretty happy with these guys.
