It was a wooden shallow-draft ship with a displacement of 512 tons, a length of 175 feet (53 m) and a width of 51 feet (15 m). The steam engine powered a paddle wheel placed in a channel in the middle of the hull and told the ship a speed of about 8 knots (15 km / h). All ships of this class were distinguished by poor controllability, but at the same time they took an active part in hostilities. On December 12, 1862, at a minefield set up by the Confederates on the Yazu River, Keiro was blown up and sank.
