OCCRE REF.12009 - HMS EREBUS The HMS Erebus was a ship of the Franklin Exploration in the Arctic, led by Sir John Franklin in 1845. Along with HMS Terror, the Erebus entered the Arctic ice and never returned, becoming Sir John Franklin's Lost Exploration. The Erebus was built in 1826 and had a length of 88 meters. It was one of the most technologically advanced ships of its time, equipped with steam engines and designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the Arctic. However, despite its innovations, exploration suffered serious drawbacks and none of the 129 crew members aboard the Erebus and the Terror survived. Both ships were technologically advanced for the time and were equipped with steam engines to navigate the Arctic waters. Exploration tried to find the Northwest Passage, but was trapped in the ice and never returned. After several years without news of the ships, a search was initiated that led to their discovery in 2014 and 2016. Although the remains of exploration were found, the exact cause of its failure was never determined, which led to many theories and speculations.
