It is a tree of the genus Aquilaria that grows in Southeast Asia; it is sometimes infected by a fungus as a result of wounds caused by insects, birds or branches that tear apart. The diseased tree produces a resin to protect itself that, after a long period of aging, soaks the wood and produces its unparalleled aroma. Jinkoh means "sinking wood" in Japanese and refers to agar so impregnated with resin that it stops floating. In the ancient Japanese tradition, it is the incense offered to Buddha and used in the Koh do ceremony, the ancient traditional art of appreciating incense. It is an extremely rare subject and its value has been celebrated throughout history in anecdotes and legends. Its refined timeless fragrance is a source of pleasure and tranquility.
