The clicker is a wind indicator on a sailing boat. It indicates the direction of the apparent wind. The name has been established for the nineteenth century and probably originated from the sailor's language. It originally refers to only the pennants, flags or (club) stands attached to the pole tip (the pole top), which made sailors and recreational sailors "clicked" the direction of the wind.
