Product Description Globe Thistle Seed by Mr. Fothergill's. Loved by butterflies and bees. Magnificent, steel blue/purple mace-like heads above deeply serrated grey-green leaves. A very stately back of border plant. Good dried flower. Height: 120 cm/48-inch Plant Class: Hardy Perennial (HP). Useful Information: Full sun; Suitable for cutting; Suitable for attracting Bees; Suitable for attracting Butterflies; Awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit; Perfect for Pollination Sow and Grow: Sow outdoors, April-June, in a seed bed, 0.5 cm (1/4-inch) deep, into finely-prepared, well-drained soil, which has already been watered. Seedlings usually appear in 21-35 days. Thin seedlings to 5 cm (2-inch) apart, when large enough to handle. Keep moist and weed free. Plant out to flowering position in autumn, allowing 35 cm (14-inch) between plants. Or sow indoors, April-June, 0.5 cm (1/4-inch) deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and place in a cold frame, unheated greenhouse, or a warm kitchen windowsill. Keep moist. Transplant individually, when large enough to handle, to 7.5 cm (3-inch) pots. Always hold seedlings by a leaf, never by the stem. Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions, before planting out into well-drained soil, September-October, 35 cm (14-inch) apart.
