Product Description Green manure white mustard seed by Mr. Fothergill's. Revitalises poor soils. Revitalises poor soils naturally, quickly producing organic matter that can be dug in approx. 40-50 days from sowing. Excellent for breaking up heavy soils, improving soil structure, suppressing weeds and preventing valuable nutrients being washed away in heavy rains. Height: 60 cm (24-inch) Plant Class: Hardy Annual (HA). Useful Information: Dappled shade; Green Manure Sow and Grow: Sow outdoors, March-August on any soils to dig in the same year, or sow in August-September to overwinter and dig in the following year. Thinly broadcast the seed over finely-prepared soil, which has already been watered. Dig in after 40-50 days in summer, or anytime just before flowering and 2-3 weeks before the ground is required. Cut the plants back and allow the foliage to wilt before digging the crop in to a depth of 15-20 cm (6-8-inch). Chop up the foliage with the spade as you dig. Overwintered crops will die off with the frost, forming beneficial, protective mulch. Dig into the soil in spring. Ensure plants are cut back or dug in before they set seed. Hints and Tips: Green manure: Can be mown before flowering to extend the cover period. Leave plants in the ground until soil is required for use, but do not let them set seed.
