Product description
Montes Classic Series Colchagua Malbec is a lovely intense deep purple in colour, this Malbec has plenty of ripe black fruits and spice. The palate is concentrated with mouth-watering acidity, supple tannins and integrated French oak providing structure and complexity. The Malbec grapes come from the Colchagua Valley renowned for making excellent red wines. In Colchagua, the moderating breezes from the ocean slows ripening allowing the wines to achieve perfect ripeness. Cool nights help retain acidity giving freshness to the wines. All grapes were hand harvested. saw favourable conditions in the months leading up to harvest, with minimal rainfall in the spring resulting in good flowering and fruit set. Despite an overall fruit quality, water deficits meant that some varieties experienced water stress. March was excessively hot, with a total of 14 days reaching temperatures above 30 degree C. As a result of this, harvest was brought forward by three weeks, with picking for the red varieties commencing in late March. The grapes were cold soaked at 10 degree c for five days to extract aroma and colour. After that, the grapes were fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for 12 days and then kept on their skins to give structure and colour. After malolactic fermentation, 45% of the final blend was aged in French oak barrels (25% new, the rest second fill) for ten months to add complexity and roundness to the wine. It comes with the vintage information as follows: Grape varieties: 100% Malbec; Region: Colchagua Valley; Closure: Natural cork; Winemaker: Aurelio Montes Baseden; Alcohol (ABV): 14.5%; Acidity: 5.39g/l; Residual Sugar: 4.02g/l; Wine pH: 3.59.
