In the interwar period the R.W.D. 8 training liaison aircraft was a very popular Polish aircraft. Among the aircraft designed in Poland it was that type of aircraft which had been produced in greatest numbers. The early design of the R.W.D.-8 aircraft was elaborated by the engineer Stanislaw Wigura together with the engineers S.Rogalski and J.Drewiecki from the workshop of the Aeronautics section of the Warsaw Technical University (later name of the workshop: Testing Aircraft Workshop) in the framework of the open competition launched in 1931 by the league of Anti-Aircraft and Anti-Tank Defence.
