Mirage Hobby 350804 1:350 Scale HMS 'PENNYWORD' - Flower Class Corvette (K111) Plastic Model Kit

• HMS PENNYWORT, British Flower Class K111 Corvette

Model kit of the HMS "Pennyword" flower class corvette (K111). The Flower class corvettes were a response to the sudden need for escort ships to support Allied convoys at the beginning of the war. With its outbreak, it turned out that Britain did not have enough destroyers to protect sea transports from attacks by German submarines. The experiences of the First World War were used, where small companion ships were successfully used to repel submarines. The ship was mainly designed for ZOP operations (submarine defense); water bombs were the main weapon. The main artillery consisted of a 102 mm gun and a relatively weak anti-aircraft armament, which first consisted of machine guns and later in the war was replaced by 40 mm and 20 mm anti-aircraft guns.
