What followed was the longest libel case in British history when two members of the public took on one of the biggest corporations in the world. Every aspect of McDonalds business was cross examined from junk food, to employee issues, animal cruelty, environmental damage and advertising to children. The McLibel Two represented themselves against McDonald s £10 million legal team who tried every possible tactic to discredit them, even resorting to spying. Seven years later in February 2005 the battle finally concluded in the European Court of Human Rights and the result took everyone by surprise including the British Government.
