Mixed set of 3 domestic sewing machine reels of Kevlar sewing thread. 1 x Tex-80 (40m), 1 x Tex-60 (50m), 1 x Tex-40 (50m). Kevlar is a para-aramid fibre made by Du Pont which has remarkable properties, the spun thread is 5 times stronger than steel thread, it does not melt, it is self-extinguishing and will withstand temperatures up to 425° C continuously. This thread has numerous specialist applications including: Sewing of heat and blast furnace protection wear, fire-fighter clothing, racing car driver clothing, personal protection equipment such as cut and ballistic protection - used in cut protection gloves and bullet-proof vests etc. It also has uses in the media and entertainment sectors where fire is used e.g. fire-juggling equipment etc. It is perfect for emergency repairs when camping and other survival activities. Our thread is not waxed, it is top quality sewing thread. It is not suitable for unravelling to produce magician's thread. Please note that Kevlar reacts with UV light which will decrease its strength (but not its fire / temperature resistance) over time. It is estimated that 50 to 60 weeks of exposure will result in a loss of strength up to 50%. Para-aramid fibres should therefore be protected against UV-rays. We supply these reels in a sealed black bag to ensure the thread is in pristine condition.
